The uranium is in concentrations of 16, 17% on average with spots of up to 70%. That means that relative to most mines, you're barely moving any material at all. Each batch of water is tested for its purity after being filtered before being released from the mine. The tailing ponds themselves are quite, they're not even ponds, they're piles that themselves are tightly monitored.
