The Dynamics of Elite Overproduction
A small proportion of the population that concentrates social power in their hands. It's always more people who want to acquire elite positions, the positions of power. And that's normal and some competition is good. However, sometimes in societies, the number of elite aspirants begins to grow rapidly and completely overwhelms the number of power positions. We saw this happen in 2016 when there were 17 Republican candidates in the presidential primaries. They, one individual started breaking rules and it was followed by others - things degenerated into something nobody expected.
