Commentaries on Philosophical Texts

The word Tafsir usually means commentary on the Quran. The commentaries were called Shahra, and glosses were called Hashias or marginal comments. As commentaries became themselves more authoritative, a single commentator's work of exegesis came to be established as the primary means of approaching an original text.
