The Importance of Language in Early Homo Sapiens

Neanderthals probably had language is what I'm trying to say. And then there was the evidence for cave paintings and there's a site in Gibraltar, a sort of late Neanderthal cave site where they've found an engraved kind of hashtag symbol. But you know, one question is why did these sorts of decorations and paintings necessarily indicate language per se? You can think of other species that do lots of decorating like, you know, bowerbirds.
