There are actually some PM roles focused solely on monetization. LinkedIn has a PM for monetization, which is in charge of looking at the subscription pricing and the pricing page. In general, those type of PM roles are better fit for people that come from a business background like consulting or MBAs. If you want to work as a product manager, try to build something on the site but not make it into a full-on startup. That's totally why I've seen so many PMs just love this job.
