The author of a new book on wolves. She started out looking at how women reacted to the risks that men were taking, which often impacted women terribly but over which was a little bit of little control. Then after looking at women and their vulnerability, then I began to look at another very vulnerable set of creatures which is animals. Both women and animals have been very much abused by male dominated cultures patriarchal cultures in many different ways. For me it's always taken a lot of time and just a lot of agony, she says.

We talked about my dad's experience researching for his thesis and books as an undergraduate without modern-day notetaking tools, what makes researchers interested in their research, the conflict with freer form notetaking and publishing, and how to make your notes accessible to the general public as an academic.
