The philosopher epicurus is thought of as someone who was the father of hedanism. He had a very restrained idea ofof what pleasure is, and he thought that many conventional pleasures containd so much the seeds of pain in them that they must be avoided. Many among his disciples, and even indeed in the roman world, for example, if you look at cicero and others, have a lot of critical things to say about him.
