The Importance of Feeling in AI
In 2022, there was a furor when a Google engineer claimed that their conversational AI called Lambda had become sentient. Most of the time, we don't have very high standards for reacting as though an entity is capable of feeling. A teddy bear clears that bar. So here in the talk, I'm pointing out that there are ways to get us to have an emotional reaction to an inanimate thing fairly easily.
