The Queen's Lane Coffee House
The first English coffee house was opened in 1651 by a bloke whose name was Pasquah Rose. Once you got the ruling classes on side with something, it didn't take long for other people to sit up and take notice of what they were drinking. The Queen's Lane Coffee House which opened in 1654 in Oxford is still open today. It claims, perhaps correctly, to be today's oldest coffee house in Europe.
