The framers of the fourth amendment, wern't worried that the king's officials were going to show up at someone's house and observe it from the republic. The reasonable expectation of privacy framework is basically the originalist fourth amendment with a technological substitutes take on it. "It kind of doesn't really matter that much how they phrase it in terms of reasonable expectations of privacy"
