The Principle of Love
To pursue the moral life and the perfection of our passions, we must pay special attention to the character of our love. The habits of our love give rise to all the other passions. If we love well, then we will find our other passions easier to cultivate. For example, consider one's own comfort. To be comfortable is good; but if I love my comfort too much, I will desire it excessively. Take excessive pleasure in having it, and take needless risks to protect it.
