A single warship would carry as much as 40 miles of rope, 15,000 square feet of sail and a farm's worth of animals. To make things even more difficult, it was hard to find a reliable crew. Even then the squadron was short of men. The wager was supposed to sail with five, four other warships and a scouting sloop and two small cargo ships.
