The Story of the 10th Mountain Division
The 10th Mountain Division was the US Army's ski troops and it was started by this fellow called Charles Meine Dohle. In 1939 the Soviet Union invaded Finland and for four months the Finns held off the lumbering Soviet forces in their tanks on a global stage. They did so by going up in cross country skis and breaking up these lumbering caravans of tanks into what they called Mottie, which is a measure of firewood. And that came to America and the newsreels that were in all the movie theaters where people were going to get their entertainment.
