This particular sonnet, one forty four, is certainly not the place where any literary critic would begin their discussion of shakespeare's sonnets. But i would start there because it's so revealing. It's unusually explicit about the situation in which speaker has entangled himself. And this wraps up this frighteningly ironic little ending, where the man is being freed and liberated at the same time that he's being contaminated by his affair with the woman.
