The Importance of Personal Growth in Gamification
To achieve that emotional connection is more crucial than the points, badges and leaderboards. The reason why it works so well on Duolingo is because it is about learning and growth. I would look for other industries that do require someone to learn something or be able to do something that they weren't doing before. Training is the same as e-learning.
