Dirty politics was known throughout the ages. What's unique about machiavelli, strauss says, is that he's the first person to teach openly that kind of doctrine and to advise princes to act this way. Strauss argues in what i think iss his greatest book, it's certainly his longestn and most challenging book on machiavellis.
