The Number Question Does Matter?
The sense of this being a British victory is very tenuous and I think it helps actually to understand it in the context of other things that are happening at the time. If you're fighting for 12 years who wins this sort of immaterial isn't it? It's a long drawn out fight and then decolonisation happens. And of course imperialism is quite complex in terms of what keeps it going because Britain doesn't have enough soldiers in every colony in order to put down an uprising at any time right.
