Fig stressed that he didn't want the sound or the look of the show to be reminiscent of that 70s show. To achieve a unified look across the show's range of characters, Maguire took an interesting tack. Literally every single piece of clothing went into an over die that was either gray or brown. Each actor would come into their fitting and go, Oh my God, I love this. I want it. And that's when you realize there's so much about fashion and trends that is so psychological in terms of what you're used to seeing,. What looks fresh and what looks new. These kids had never seen clothes that looked like this before.
