What Is the German Army Chain of Command?
In the case of an SS they adopted German army, a chain of command structure. The divisions were organized into court, which is a court with a core commander and his staff. These would then be grouped into an army, or three call making up an army. So those were structures that the German army understood. And it also meant that when SS divisions for alongside the German army that structure fitted the German army chain of command to say it's a word. It wasn't until Heinz Gudurian ended up as Inspector General of the Panzer Troopen that he moved to bring the SS under the army umbrella in order to try and negate all this duplication that was going on.
