After the tsunami, Frankenberg and her colleagues had a specific set of issues to explore. They wanted to look at two questions really. What happens to women's fertility in the aftermath of a shock of this nature? And then within those communities, fertility of women who had lost a child relative to fertility of women not losing any children.
