The Marthal Plan Was Not a Humanitarian Initiative
Truman's pledge of support for free countries became known as the truman doctrine. Marshall plan dollars jolted western europe out of its economic depression. Bankrolling rolling stock, apartment buildings and scientific laboratories was a key part of Truman's strategy to contain communism within his own borders. To stallen, the marthal plan represented an act of economic and psychological warfare. An economic stimulus could loll the masses into accepting capitalism instead of overthrow it.
