The policy was initially written by Republicans and Democrats who were basing their solutions off of very little research. The only policy that we were aggressively familiar with doing anything or going through the getting past was the assault weapons ban in the late 90s and early 2000s. We didn't have the political education to be like, wait, what about this? Because we were limited by our narrow perspective being from a privileged background, being white in America.
