The CIA and the SOVMAT Program - Part Two
Jim remained posted in Egypt for about another year after this successful operation with the MiG23. The CIA had a habit of rewarding good work in dangerous places with more danger. According to some reports, as many as 12 MiGs may have been handed over to the Americans because of Jim's efforts. In return, the US Air Force supplied a reported 36 F4Es to the Egyptian military. I think that contribution to the confidence and the understanding of those war fighters is really what is the lasting legacy from this particular exploitation.
