Librarians are often a refuge. They're a place where people look for work, look for housing, connect to services. Again, like you said, they're a secular institution that can't turn anyone away as such. It's a similar thing with a lot of the anti-CRT, anti-trans panic around schools is literally many of the same funders as the charter school movement. Not the more liberal ones, I guess, but it's the same ends, which is just a gut public, secular public institutions.
