CHAPTER

Why Do Leaves Turn Bright Colors in the Fall?

All green plants are green because they contain a pigment, which is a chemical that makes a color. Chlorophyll is the chemical within the leaves that not only makes it green but allows it to harvest sunlight and use that with water and minerals from the soil to make food for themselves. The process of photosynthesis is based on chlorophyll being formed in the leaf. That's what our eye is picking up on. And that's why it looks green to us.
