The Social Desirability Bias in Regulation
i would say that regulation requiring that all daycare providers have a bachelor's degree is a classic case of social desirability bias. i don't care whether they've got a degree as long as they love children that's probably getting close to the best they're going to do. I think net neutrality is a good example of a of a policy that nobody was really clamoring for came from a temp tim wu a columbia university and now it's got this momentum of its own behind it. It's just another reason why i think we just need more good people involved in in regulation to come up with better theories of regulation than we're doing now.
