The Importance of Community in Early Greece

Do we have any sense for the kind of internal organization of these places? They seem pretty egalitarian in this period, not a lot of obvious differences in wealth and status within them. We can read some aspects of later Homeric society into what we see during the early Iron Age based on just inference from later sources of information. I think one thing that we see a lot of is nonlinear trajectories, let's say.
