The differential of an increased osmolar gap actually sounds like it's a little broader than an anion gap and should be considered more of a rule in than a rule out for something like a toxic alcohol. Keep in mind the osmolarly active compounds are the parent compounds, the methanol and the ethylene glycol itself. But don't be fooled because if the patient presents late and this guy could be, you know, in that direction as well.
