Steve Bales' Story
Steve Bales started work at mission control just as NASA began to launch missions in its Gemini space program. He'd work his way up from a junior technical job in the back rooms to earn a place as a Gemini flight controller two years later at the age of 23. Steve's story wasn't unusual: NASA was under enormous pressure at the time, as we heard in episodes one and two - they hired quickly and tested them out on the job.
