The Demand for Faculty Members in the Sixties
In the sixties, people could get jobs even if they had been fired. You got your jobs mainly through an old boy network and connections. Berkeley was uniquely repressive in that way. It became front page news when a group of students who call themselves te free speech movement occupied the administration building.
