The Effects of Sound on Coral Reefs

Fish and crustacean larvae need to hear the reef to find their way there. In a damaged reef, that distance at which they'll be able to detect the reef is reduced by tenfold. We don't know what different sounds they're reacting to but snapping shrimp sounds are most reliable. One possible idea is actually to put loudspeakers on the reef, which are emitting these sounds which attract fish and crustaceans from far away.
