In terms of a model often it is kind of a simulation of reality. So you've got like a string with a mass on the end and that's kind of oscillating. And there you can model that system just with Newton's second law, so force equals mass times acceleration. I think there is kind of an example where you've kind of captured the key relationship, boiled it down to one equation which then helps you to kind of model and understand this environment.
