The Higgs Boson Is an Excitation of the Field
Each time a higgs is made, the boson instantaneously turns into quarks and other things that can be tracked. 50 years of theory is very specific about the fractions of events that turn out in each different way. The physicists call it the coupling rite. But even when they're measuring these things, melissa franklin told me, they're remembering the bigger picture.
