The Critique of Pure Reason
This is the book which made a lot of Kant's stuff click for me. It was published in 1781 and, you know, what does this mean for the critique of pure reason? Well, it's being published amidst the Enlightenment - an era when science had culturally overtaken metaphysics. And Kant really, I think, finds a foothold by making it clear that he believes that we're always doing metaphysics, whether we like it or not.
