The Importance of Absolute Autonomy in Racing

I think it's a cultural thing, rather than some latest software thing or best practice rulebook. The only time Ferrari excelled is when someone has taken it by the scruff of the neck and demanded absolute autonomy. And that was the Ross Braun and John Totti here. I'm not convinced it is an attempt to get this term on the books with a view to regulating bad behaviour more strictly going forward. What on track incidents will allow the stewards to punish this, which will have previously had to be let go? The only thing I can think of is the usual set of conny shenanigans at Monza.
