The Importance of Saving
If consumers continue to spend money as if everything is fine, then hey presto, you won't have a recession. This all ignores two major problems though. Just giving people money doesn't necessarily mean that they will spend it. Japan was one of the first national economies that we ever explored on this channel. According to official definitions, Japan has been in recession six times within the past 20 years.
