There's a lot of conversation right now in the music education world about like the gender politics of being in band. When I was growing up, often band directors would be like, oh, well, you're really little, you're smaller, your hands that can't reach a certain length or like you're not big enough to hold the tuba. And so there will be all of these subconscious pushes to be in certain sections, for example. So that's why a lot of flautists or female or things like that.
