The Gunpowder Assassination

The Gunpowder plot was devised during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. Catholics in England had been subject to religious legislation that required them to attend a parish church every Sunday. The penalty for recusency was originally a one-chilling fine, which ended up going up to 20 pounds a month by 1581. People who broke these laws were executed.
