Spinoza defines an affect as like a modification or an affection of the body or of the mind, accompanied by the image that we form of it. When there's a joyful affect, like like love, for instance, he thinks does conform with reason. Sad passions don't riht and this is where we start getting to the problems. We only have partial understandings of the nature of our own situations and our affections.
