The Three Strikes Act

In a unanimous opinion this week, the justices decided that william wooden had committed one crime. And so would not be getting the mandatory 15 year prison sentence under the three strikes law. The issue here was the specific component of the act, which includes crimes that are committed on occasions different from another. It all came down to the question of whether it was one occasion or whether it was ten different occasions. In an opinion by justice cagan, said that counted as just one occasion based on a plain english meaning of the word occasion.
