The artist was painting homes that were on schedule to be demoleshed. The houses became a signifier for the people that live there, and they're both valuable and undervalued. Sometimes what she's trying to get across isn't what neighbors are looking for. She decided to paint the house anyways, cause it was a beautiful purple.
