The Future of Artificial Intelligence

I'm about to go off to santa fe institute for a year, and i'm going to be putting together a research programme on intelligence as studied from an interdisciplinary perspective. That's something i'm very excited about. I mean, people use the word intelligence to refer to things that we don't normally think of as having intelligence. But, yes, so like intelligence kind of writ large. What does it mean? And how do we study it? It doesn't seem like it makes sense just to study it in these isolated disciplinary ways,. cause it's much broader than just neurons or behavior or machine learning.
