How Much Carbon Does a Child Produce?
Most mediar treatments of this question say that having a child produces 60 tons extra carbon per year. So why would children be three times as polluting as adults? The authors conveniently assume that fert rates will gradually decline and everything will converge to some large but finite number of people. When your child is an adult, they will be making money themselves, and you can at least hope they will offset their own carbon.
