The subminimum wage for tipped workers is the largest population of workers earning less than the minimum wage, 6 million workers. There's a subminimum wage in many states for youth based on the idea that somehow young people deserve to be paid less when they work. The sub Minimum Wage was created as a way to continue slavery at emancipation.
