The Power of Illusion and Misdirection

The word gimmick actually came from Vaudeville magicians in the 1920s. It's like a magic wand or the hat and the rabbit, whatever. The machine that sort of does something. And gimmick has a negative connotation now but I think that really every user interface, every user experience we create is built around a gimmick and embrace that gimmick.
