The medication is better absorbed with food, and actually a fatty-rich meal would help with absorption of the medication. Some patients do complain about nausea, abdominal pain, and a few patients have reported headaches while taking the medication. Brinsidophavir has FDA approval for treatment of smallpox and can also be used for treatment of other ophapox viruses. It tends to be very nephrotoxic and has to be co-administered with pre-beniscid to reduce some of that nephrotoxicity. The most common adverse effect is association with elevation of liver enzymes in certain cases.
