Intro
This chapter critically examines the emerging belief within the church about raising the dead, focusing on the book 'How to Raise the Dead.' It highlights the dangers of such controversial interpretations and their potential impact on individuals and families.
Several years ago, Andrew and Kalley Heiligenthal asked the members of their church, Bethel in Redding, California, to pray for resurrection after their two-year old daughter Olive died suddenly. The hashtag #wakeupolive was shared thousands of times on social media. After the unsuccessful attempt to raise Olive from the dead, many Christians began wondering what type of theology was really being taught at Bethel. “How to Raise the Dead” is a book by Bethel alum Tyler Johnson. The book claims that every Christian should be performing miracles, raising the dead, and achieving immortality. The book has been sold in the Bethel book store, and lays a theological framework in which the author claims every Christian can harness resurrection power. Alisa read the book and offers her analysis and review on today’s episode.
