Hug robots can be uncomfortable or people have negative reactions to them. The spatial arrangement of the care home meant that you couldn't just leave hug out. So it always had to be wheeled to the specific person who needed to be lifted. It was an invisible tasks that took additional time for care workers to do.

Paris Marx is joined by James Wright to discuss Japan’s efforts to develop robots to care for its growing elderly population, what the government hoped to achieve with that plan, and why it hasn’t worked out as planned.
