The Crown Prince's Reluctance to Change
Ali Salassi was an absolutist monarch at a time when many felt the country desperately needed serious political and agrarian reform. It was his reluctance to change that had persuaded the plotters he needed to be replaced. Within hours of the coup, most of the key installations in the capital at his ababa were in the hands of the imperial bodyguard - around 5,000 strong. The late Crown Prince Asvar Wesson reported to have been made emperor in his father's place.
