The Importance of Pity
Many people who hold pity to be a very high virtue, and that leads them to perform all sorts of actions that are not i mean, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Somebody following the noble morality could still be compassionate out of an overflowing of wealth, vitality, good will and so on. But we have to understand that if pity is involved at the basis of any of these erstwhile virtues, that nicia is genuinely opposed to it. And he doesn't think it simply a matter of preference, but that pity is one of the most harmful psychological forces that exists in mankind.
